Community Care Licensing

Licensing officers promote the health, safety and well-being of adults and children in licensed care facilities such as day care and residential care facilities. This is achieved by setting and monitoring essential health, safety and care standards for licensed community care facilities. We work with care providers, families and agencies who share in the goal to ensure quality care for vulnerable individuals in our communities.

The Licensing program is responsible for monitoring compliance of licensed facilities to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, the Community Care and Assisted Living Regulationthe Child Care Licensing Regulation and the Residential Care Regulation. The Act and its Regulations set forth a standard which all licensed facilities are required to meet. These standards have been developed to ensure a base level of protection for all persons in licensed care facilities throughout the province.

Licensing officers monitor facilities through an inspection process. Licensing officers also perform other duties outlined in the Community Care and Assisted Living Act including investigating complaints, reviewing new applications, and considering exemption requests.
